Humi

Could a humidifier be a dehumidifier or vice versa?

Relative humidity varies throughout the year due to the change of seasons in many countries. Such changes could cause many problems for people. Humidity rises during the rainy season, while humidity could drop during the winter season. The two extreme ends could cause problems ranging from the moldy smell, and dry skin to nose bleed. While humidifiers and dehumidifiers are two different products, they are both responsible for regulating indoor humidity level.

Everchanging Relative Humidity:
Relative Humidity (RH) level changes drastically in many countries due to the change of seasons. It could affect our wellbeings when RH falls out of the ideal range. If the air is too dry, it may cause cracks in the skin or nose bleeding. Too much moisture could result in heat exhaustion and the growth of mold in the space.

Humidifier Dehumidifier:
The common solution is a humidifier and dehumidifier for the two situations. Both products manage humidity by releasing and extracting moisture in the air. What if these two functions combine into one single product that is capable of regulating humidity levels to the optimum in our living spaces?

Inspiration:
Cactus, a living vessel of water, stores water in its stems during rainfall. Water is saved to combat the dry and heating sun in the desert, ensuring their survival under such extreme weather.

Taking the symbol of a cactus as an inspiration, Humi adopted its form and iconic silhouette, aiming to provide an optimal humidity level for users at home with smart features.

Form development:
Following the form of a cactus, the trunk is the main body that stores water, while the arms become the handle and water inlet.

Branding and logo:
Humi logo combines its initial “H” with the characteristics of the product and water element to a new form of “H”.

UI Design:
The Humi app implements neumorphism user interface and muted tones that create a welcoming and soft impression. Humi app shows live humidity level in the center of the circle and a dial allows user to adjust to their desired range. By keeping only the essential information and functions, the Humi app is understandable and easy to use.

Smart humidity level detection:
Humi detects real-time humidity level in the air 24/7. The system will notify the user when the humidity is out of the desirable range through the Humi App and automatically start regulating the humidity.

One App, multiple devices:
Humi App can sync multiple Humis and monitor the humidity level at different area at home. The simple UI provides a clear overview of all the humidity levels around the house.

One body, two systems:
Humi consists of 2 main parts, the Dehumidification Unit (DE) and the Humidification Unit (HU). The DE Unit uses Peltier chip technology to condense the air drawn in by the internal fan, turning the moisture back to liquid form. On the other hand, the HU unit uses an ultrasonic atomizer to turn water into mist and exit from the water inlet.

Detachable cover:
The DE Unit connects to the mainboard with pogo pins, which allows it to be detachable for cleaning the internal water container.

Watering with the moisture:
After one dehumidification cycle, the water drawn from the humid air can be used to water plants and Humi turns into a watering pot.
