O-Case

By creating a case that can store, present, and give the oranges gracefully without direct hand contact, O-Case allows us to preserve the Chinese traditional act of exchanging oranges during Chinese New Year safely amidst the COVID-19 Pandemic that has hindered our physical touch with people.

The Chinese Tradition:
The Chinese believe that tangerines and oranges are auspicious symbols of a better year ahead. Their bright color also symbolizes gold, hence they have a meaning of bringing good luck and wealth. The traditional act of exchanging a pair of oranges is a way of sending wishes to the recipient and their family.

Concept:
Our group proposed an orange case that encases a pair of oranges rather than just a paper/plastic bag. The case also functions as an object to present the oranges and deliver them to the recipient when opened.

Materials:
The fabric wraps around the case uses spandex infused with silver ions that can eliminate bacteria and viruses when contacted. The magnets around the rim of O-Case provide a secure lock when closed.
